LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The area we reside and work in around Portland, Oregon was occupied by the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes. The rich resources of this region brought countless tribes from across the Pacific Northwest to engage and in trade, cultural exchange, and celebrations. We recognize the incredible resilience and vibrant culture of these people despite hundreds of years of colonialism.
In 2001, the Chinook Nation obtained federal recognition from the U.S. government, however, the U.S. government rescinded this recognition eighteen months later. We honor the continuing fight for recognition by the Chinook and other tribes who made the lands we stand on their own.
